Hui Kanaka Pōwāwae Reveals Identity and Launches Hawaiian Football Shop

WAILUKU, MAUI – Hui Kanaka Pōwāwae today revealed its identity – comprised of its name, mark, flag, anthem, and core values – alongside the launch of its Hawaiian Football Shop.  The shop offers men’s, women’s, and youth apparel – bearing the mark or common seal of Kanaka Pōwāwae.  All proceeds will support the formation of Kanaka Pōwāwae’s National Teams.

The mark or common seal of Kanaka Pōwāwae consists of the following elements:

  • Shield/Kalo:  The leaf-shaped shield symbolizes kalo (taro) – a canoe plant rooted at the very core of Hawaiian culture and identity; representing the fundamental Hawaiian values of family and ancestry.

  • Divisions:  The division of the shield symbolizes the dual-worlds Hawaiians must live in as de facto American citizens and subjects of a stateless nation.  The wave-shaped crests – intertwined – speaks of the balance one must find in order to exist soundly under occupation.

  • Ball/Star:  Centered between the waves is a star-charged football (soccer ball), representing the Hawaiian National Team as Ka Hoku o Osiana (The Star of Oceania).  The symbol is inspired by the Royal Order of the Star of Oceania – featuring Hawai‘i as the Guiding Light of the Pacific.

Visit our Shop to wear the crest and support the Hawaiian Football.
