Hawaiian Football National Teams in Action at 2025 NorCal College Showcase
WAILUKU, MAUI — The 16 Nā Wāhine and 17 Nā Kāne National Teams, Nā ‘Ālapa Hawai‘i, competed at the 2025 NorCal College Showcase this past spring, fielding new squads as players advanced within Hawaiian Football’s national system.

The event marked the debut of the National Teams’ new kits, featuring the redesigned Nā ‘Ālapa Hawai‘i crest on the left chest and the prominent placement of the King’s Hawaiian mark—honoring a legacy partnership grounded in shared origins, values, and King’s foundational support for Hawaiian Football’s development and pathways.
National Teams are composed of Hawaiian players drawn from across the Islands and the diaspora. The 2025 Nā ‘Ālapa roster included Cody Kahoali‘i, the first diaspora player to feature for the 17 Nā Kāne since the team’s establishment in 2023. Based in Boston, Massachusetts, and competing within the MLS NEXT system, Kahoali‘i’s inclusion on the Hawaiian side extends National Team participation to Hawaiian players competing beyond the Islands.
Tournament organizers noted that Nā ‘Ālapa matches were among the most highly attended by college coaches, signaling a marked increase in the Teams’ visibility within a heavily scouted competitive environment. A high-level friendly between the 17 Nā Kāne National Team and the Sacramento Republic FC Academy provided an important test for the men’s side, made possible through the long-standing relationship between NorCal Premier leadership and Hawaiian Football. The matchup highlighted a showcase experience built on meaningful competition, collaboration, and equitable access to high-level development and collegiate scholarship pathways.
Hawaiian Football approaches National Team participation with aloha ‘āina and kuleana (collective responsibility). The goal is simple: prepare well, compete with integrity, and represent Hawai‘i in a way that honors who we are and who we come from.
